Chaos Log Entry 4 - The Story
The Genesis: A Father, A Son, and A Baron G58
Every great journey starts with a simple idea. For the Squawk Series, it began as a personal dream: a simple, multi-stop sightseeing flight around the world in my favourite aircraft, the Baron G58.
That simple idea quickly grew roots into the life of Alex. He is the quintessential Baron G58 enthusiast - successful enough to purchase his own airplane and gifted with the freedom to fly wherever he wants. This passion for aviation was inherited by his two children, Daniel and Faith, who have grown up feeling completely at home in the air.
The perfect opportunity arose when Daniel finally passed his Private Pilot Licence (PPL) exams at the age of 20. For Alex, the around the world trip transformed into a once-in-a-lifetime experience: an adventure to bond with his now-adult son, pass on his lifetime of aviation knowledge, and finally experience the round-the-world journey he always dreamed of making. This was the initial, beautiful plot.
The Expansion: A Saga Takes Flight
The initial plot was quickly overwhelmed by the surprisingly many and compelling ideas for current and new characters. The concepts were so strong, and the story naturally outgrew a simple Around-the-World adventure into a potential series where the characters' aviation careers are followed.
The vast number of ideas naturally fit into different episodes and situations, allowing me to truly commit to the characters’ long-term development. The path is now wide open for Daniel's career in aviation to continue - whether he pursues becoming a commercial airline pilot, an executive charter pilot, or something entirely different is still to be decided.
Faith’s character emerged as an anchor for a future episode. She will follow her own dedicated path into aviation, detailing her journey into becoming a helicopter pilot and joining a Search and Rescue (SAR) operations team.
The canvas is blank and the ideas are many. The only certainty is that the Squawk Series is now a multi-character, multi-episode, multi-career world.
The Scale: Episode 1 - 150+ Pages of planning and still in it’s infancy
What started as a few pages of logistical ideas for the "Around the World in a Baron G58" flight (Episode 1) has absolutely exploded in scale.
This single episode has grown to more than 150 pages of content, including:
Storyline and dialogue
Fully comprehensive and interactive airplane checklists
Deep dive into airplane mastery and aviation procedures
Detailed flight plans and waypoints
Unique narrative ideas and challenges
I am fully committed to my characters and and what comes next. Stay tuned and find out how far Daniel and Faith take their careers in the air.
